Gail and Farmer's Choice help large commercial produce farmers get their "seconds" on to people's plates instead of into the landfill. After the Harvest was their first non-profit partner, seeking to provide more variety in the fruits and vegetables going to feed hungry people. We've been able to accomplish just that with this partnership.

Lisa looks under the cabbage leaf and finds…more cabbage!

Do you like cabbage? How about coleslaw? New England boiled dinner? Green cabbage, red cabbage and Savoy cabbage – all packed with nutrition and flavor. On Jan. 4, I was treated to a tour of Cabbage Inc., in central Florida, the largest cabbage grower and producer east of California, and I came away with fabulous photos and a much greater appreciation of cabbage than ever before.

Cabbage and more cabbage…from planting to harvesting

Part 2 of Lisa’s visit to Cabbage Inc. in central Florida, the largest cabbage grower and producer east of California. The visit was arranged by Farmers’ Choice, which connects commercial growers with organizations like After the Harvest to distribute produce that might otherwise go to waste to feed hungry people. Just outside the packing and refrigeration buildings, we watched as a tractor with a strange loading device drove up to a trailer and lifted 14 palletized bins of cabbage into the air.
